Anything Can Happen in the Theatre
lyrics and music by Maury Yeston
conceived and directed by Gerard Alessandrini
music direction Gregg Jarrett
with Robert Cuccioli, Alex Getlin, Justin Keyes, Michael Maliakel and Jill Paice
Anything Can Happen in the Theater: The Songs of Maury Yeston played a short run at the Triad in NYC for 12 nights only celebrating the music of two-time Tony-winning composer Maury Yeston.
Yeston's music and lyrics include his Broadway musicals Nine, Titanic (both which earned him Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Musical, as well as Grammy nominations), and Grand Hotel (Tony nomination, Olivier Award).
This was a beautiful little show that was a delight to work on. It reunited us with Bob Cuccioli, with whom we had done My Life is a Musical at Bay Street (among many staged readings) and Jill Paice, who starred in our workshop of Lend Me A Tenor the Musical.
This was such a short run we had limited ability to get in the critics, but theatrepizzazz loved it, saying:
“Gerard Alessandrini’s resume may seem overflowing with his many legendary Forbidden Broadway shows and his current Spamilton but this genial genius of theatrical satire has produced yet another show: Anything Can Happen in the Theater: The Songs of Maury Yeston at the Triad Theater on West 72nd Street, a warm, revue-style entertainment that gives Yeston his due with expert renditions of a fine cross-section from his cache of songs.”
