Called the “greatest stage adaptation of this novel in history,” this rollicking, ingeniously-staged new adaptation follows the adventures (and misadventures) of the Dashwood sisters – sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne – after their sudden loss of fortune. Bursting with humor, emotion, and bold theatricality, ‘Sense and Sensibility’ asks: when reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?
We had worked with Bedlam several times, first producing Hamlet and Saint Joan in rep at 45 Bleecker Theatre, and then as GM’s on New York Animals, at the New Ohio Theatre.
Sense & Sensibility was a huge hit for Bedlam, and deservedly so. Perry Street looked after the show as G.M.’s for it’s Off Broadway run in New York, from January 24–November 20, 2016. The show would go on to see further life at the Folger Theatre in D.C., at A.R.T. in Cambridge, and at Portland Center Stage, in Portland, OR.
The reviews for the New York production were astonishingly good:
“A whirlwind of delicious gossip… An enchanting romp with buoyant spirits, cunning stagecraft and enlivening insights…. This production is a triumphant joy in giving such defiantly theatrical form to a literary narrative… Irresistible theater.” - Ben Brantley, The New York Times
“A nonstop delight! 4 stars… Critics pick!” - TimeOut NY
“Goofy, joyous and deeply moving” - The Daily News
““Blissfully delightful” – Huffington Post
