After starting at Princeton's McCarter Theatre Center and Lincoln Center‘s Mitzi Newhouse, we were thrilled to be a part of the producing team to bring Chris Durang’s brilliant comedy to Broadway. It takes a lot of producers to get a show on Broadway (just look at the list above!) - and we would work with some of our favorite colleagues on this one.
Inspired by the world of Chekhov, Durang’s comedy takes place in Bucks County, PA. Movie star Masha returns home to the old family farm, with boy-toy Spike in tow, where Vanya and stepsister Sonia still live there after many years of caring for their ailing parents. Their cleaning woman, Cassandra, warns that terrible things are to come, and the neighbor's pretty niece Nina, shortly arrives on the scene; an aspiring actress who provokes envy in Masha, lust in Spike, and sympathy in Vanya, further upsetting the delicate balance of things.
The show recouped in just four months and would garner a raft of awards, including the TONY, Drama Desk, Drama League, and New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards for Best Play of 2013. Five of the six in the cast would also be nominated for TONY”s.
It would go onto play just about every major regional in the country.
