My Life Is A Musical

book, lyrics and music by Adam Overett
directed by Marlo Hunter
musical direction by Vadim Feichtner

presented by Bay Street Theatre in association with Perry Street Theatricals, Cheryl Wiesenfeld, Joan Raffe & Jhett Tolentino, and Patrick Blake

with Wendi Bergamini, Robert Cuccioli, Adam Daveline, Danyel Fulton, Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone, Justin Matthew Sargent, Brian Sills and Howie Michael Smith as Parker

This show came out of Theatre Resources Unlimited, TRU VOICES Annual New Musicals Reading Series. After seeing it in it nascent state presented at music stands, we optioned it immediately, bringing in some of our favorite producing cohorts, including my old partner Patrick Blake with whom I founded Cold Productions, Cheryl Wiesenfeld and Joan and Jhett were also on board - with whom we also co-produced VANYA, SONIA, MASHA & SPIKE (seeing a pattern? Working with great partners again and again is how it works!).

We workshopped MY LIFE IS A MUSICAL first at The Duke on 42nd Street where it caught the attention of Scott Schwartz who had just taken over Bay Street Theater as the new Artistic Director. In a move that speaks volumes about Scott, he decided to stage this brand new musical into his very first season. A bold and dare I say, heroic, choice, indeed!

The show centers around Parker (brilliantly played by Howie Michael Smith), the bewildered hero who discovers that he isn’t like anyone else. When he wakes up in the morning and leaves his apartment, people sing, and people dance– and no other person on earth knows it is happening. Because Parker’s life is a musical. And worse? Parker hates musicals. On this incredible journey, both hilarious and human, Parker struggles to hide his predicament from the world, tries to save a rock band, is pursued by a mysterious blogger, and even finds his curse is a great gift as he finds love along the way.
